Meet Jeff Hewgley

With lifelong ties to the Highland Lakes and deep experience in planning, nonprofit leadership, and strategic governance, I’m running for the LVPOA Board to ensure our association remains strong, member-focused, and resilient. From Firewise leadership to Planning & Zoning, I’ve worked to protect what makes Lago Vista special — and I’m ready to do even more.

The Highland Lakes & POAs

I’ve experienced the Highland Lakes in lakeside communities throughout most of my life beginning with my grandfather’s home in Sunrise Beach on Lake LBJ, then my parents’ home in Horseshoe Bay on Lake LBJ and here in Lago Vista on Lake Travis. Through all of this, I’ve learned how incredibly valuable POAs are for lakeside communities. A lot of people hate HOAs and POAs but when I hear or talk about lakeside POAs, my eyes light up! I truly love lakeside POAs and I especially love the Lago Vista POA.

A Lifelong Bond

I didn’t move to the Highland Lakes — I grew up in them. From camping on the shores of Lake Buchanan and Inks Lake to waterskiing on Lake Austin and Lake LBJ, these lakes have shaped my life across generations. My teens and twenties were filled with wakeboarding, boating, and regatta racing on Lake Travis, and today, I find peace paddling its shoreline in my kayak. Even Lady Bird Lake gave me the chance to row often at daybreak through an unexpected oasis in the heart of Austin.

Immersed in Outdoor
& Recreational Stewardship

My connection runs deeper than recreation. I was raised in a family immersed in outdoor stewardship. My father spent decades building and maintaining camps for the Boy Scouts across Texas and Oklahoma — and our holidays were just as likely to be spent checking on a rural riverfront or lakeside camp as they were around a dinner table. We camped often, and everywhere we went, my dad was studying facilities, dreaming up the next, better outdoor bathroom or trailhead — with me in tow!

That legacy of care and curiosity lives on in me. I see the Highland Lakes not just as places to play, but as places to protect — and I bring that same spirit to my work in Lago Vista today.

Experience

Community Leadership

I serve on the Planning & Zoning Commission for the City of Lago Vista, where I help guide responsible development and strengthen long-term community resilience. I also lead Lago Vista Firewise, revitalizing the program to advance wildfire preparedness and neighborhood safety across our region. Beyond Lago Vista, I serve as Board President of the Society for Animal Rescue & Adoption, which operates the largest domestic animal sanctuary in Texas — a mission rooted in compassion, stewardship, and sustainable care.
